Infertility Struggle: Gabz & Melissa's IVF Journey

Infertility Sucks!!!

Let’s be honest, infertility sucks. It’s hard physically. It’s hard mentally and emotionally. It has drained our accounts and spiritually it is a whirlwind that has us constantly on our knees before God in surrender begging and pleading for a child.

We have been on this journey now for over 6 years, have done 3 rounds, two in 2015 and one in 2017 all of which have been unsuccessful. When we went in for our last round in 2017, we were full of hope that this would be the one that would take.

With so many people praying for us we stood in hope that 2017 would be our year and that we would get pregnant. When we got the news that it hadn’t been successful. We just could not believe it. We were broken beyond belief.

We were so sure this would be it. We were in shock, trying to grieve and process, while at the same time being asked by the doctors when we would like to go again, but it was all too much. We needed time to heal. We can still remember sitting on the bathroom floor with two of our close friends for almost 3 hours just crying. Not many words were said, but having them there, sharing in our pain and tears was one of the most beautiful and wonderful moments of our life and we could not ask for more amazing friends.

So, we took a step back, saw other doctors, had more tests done and then waited, waited until we were both ready to take that next step. Because taking the step to do it again meant starting from scratch, having no more embryo’s or money, we were at a loss. We talked a lot about if we would do a 4th round, this meant Melissa taking hormones again, going through egg collection and then the embryo transfer.

After a year we both felt we were finally ready to start again. However, we are out of money. For most of our married life, we have struggled financially, IVF playing a big part in this, always trying to figure out how we can pay for the next round. While we have never had a lot of money, we have always felt remarkably blessed in our lives. But to keep going on this journey we need help. Every dollar gets us one day closer to holding our little baby in our arms.

The total cost for us through Monash IVF is $11,000
We are hoping to raise $6,000 which will cover the Medicare Gap payment.

We have always strived to be open and authentic about the hardships and joy of everyday life and have wrestled with the idea of asking for money like this for some time but we know we cannot walk this journey alone. Will you join us and help us along the way to parenthood.
