Gabriel Carmino Mele born on 3/16/2018 is a beautiful healthy baby boy but unfortunately the circumstances surrounding his birth are why we asking for your help.
Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare form of heart failure due to pregnancy and was the reason that Laura Mele (his beautiful mother) was rushed to a University Hospital Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) on the day of his birth.
Laura has one of the most severe forms of PPCM and will require a heart transplant, hopefully giving her a chance to spend a few precious years with her husband and her new baby boy.
Braden, Gabriel's father and Laura's husband, will be unable to work during this time because Laura will not be strong enough to take care of Gabriel alone and Laura won't be able to work until she recovers from her transplant operation. Currently, Laura is still in the CCU and will remain there until she is strong enough to have a heart pump installed, at which time she will then await the call that a viable heart is available for transplant.
Insurance is being resistant in covering Laura and Gabriel during this troubling time. We are asking for your help because there are going to be costly medical bills and The Mele Family (Laura, Braden, and Gabriel) will have very limited funds to live on during this time with a newborn baby.
