Hello everyone!
I recently graduated from the University of Arizona in May of 2018 with a dual degree in Political Science and Communication. For my next adventure I have accepted a 2-year teaching position with a non-profit organization called Teach for America. In May I moved to Nashville, Tennessee to teach 5th grade ELA/Reading in a high need school district to do my small part in closing the education gap that currently exists. Although teaching was not something I originally envisioned for myself I am extremely excited for this new journey. I can't wait to decorate my new classroom, meet my students and their families! One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies. To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials to set them up for success. I will also use the funds to create my own classroom library so that my students can find their own love for reading by reading books that interest them. The future is in my classroom and I want to ensure that I provide my students with the essential tools they need to be successful and create an engaging learning environment.
