Team Blake

On March 25th, Blake had a normal day as an active kiddo. He went for a jog, played soccer and drew pictures before bed. On the morning of Thursday, March 26, 2020, he  experienced a sudden cardiac arrest.  CPR was performed on Blake and and the paramedics worked tirelessly on him for what felt like an eternity. During that process, his brain was without oxygen for stretches of 9 to 11 minutes. He was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and required being shocked 4 times on the way. The last 2 weeks have been a blur and a rollercoaster.

As this point, we don't know why Blake experienced the sudden cardiac arrest. His heart MRI and EP (electrophysiology test) came back normal. He had his ICD (heart defibrillator) surgically installed,  as well as a Gastro feeding tube. Physical therapy and occupational therapy are working with Blake daily while he is at Vandy. Once  Blake is considered medically stable, he will be transported to a pediatric inpatient rehabilitation hospital (Children's Hospital of Atlanta) to receive intensive therapy (physical, occupational, speech, etc.). We don't know at this point where he will land neurologically. Hoping to get results of most recent brain MRI soon.

He has a long road ahead but if any kiddo can get thru this, it's Blake. He is a fighter and has already made huge strides since admitting to the hospital. We continue to celebrate every miracle and pray for full healing in his brain and his body. So many have asked how they can help and I am humbled and grateful. As a therapist and helper, it has been a growth opportunity for me to accept so much generosity. I have temporarily closed my private practice therapy business, Resiliency Ranch Counseling, so that I can focus solely on Blake and his siblings. As a single mom, my practice was my source of income. The continued outpouring of financial support is taking a huge burden off of my shoulders so that for at least the next couple of months, our basic needs/bills will be covered. The money raised beyond our basic needs will be set aside for his medical expenses in coming months. Thank you for loving us well in tangible and intangible ways. I am so grateful.
