Raising funds to support Bangladesh flood victims

My village is under water! Bangladesh is under water!

 

I have been inundated with calls from Bangladesh, my extended family members, friends and colleagues from Sylhet. I have set up this Emergency Flood Appeal in response to their cry for HELP!

 

I initiated a team of volunteers from my village of birth and the surrounding area to reach those severely affected, rescue them and to take them to Schools; colleges and Community Centers, some 400 families are dependent on food donations.

 

The same is the situation if not worse in other areas, especially in Shunamgonj area! Approximately 200 families in another nearby village to mine also require urgent help with food and medication. The extent of damages to those family homes are difficult to assess until the flood water disperses, however it will be in the hundreds if not £1000s to rebuild or repair each home. It is heartbreaking to see what’s unfolded in Sylhet and in my village overnight! People's homes are being washed away and they are having to leave behind their belongings under these circumstances.

 

Bangladesh and in particular greater Sylhet has been severely affected by this disaster,  the Sunamgonj area the worst affected. Monsoon storms in Bangladesh have unleashed devastating floods that have caused a number of deaths and left millions stranded. The storm and flood have hit Bangladesh’s northern and north- eastern regions, destroying crops, livestock and damaging homes and roads the worst floods in 50 years.

 

The country is suffering from severe climate change which has damaged thousands of homes and created high levels of poverty and this flood will have a lasting effect for decades.

 

Bangladesh lacks the facilities to adapt to climate change. Many charities, organisations and generous donors are helping people in the Sylhet and Sunamgonj area in Bangladesh to provide shelters, food, and assistance to flood- affected areas for which I thank them all. Me and my brothers are supporting hundreds of families with food packs, we will continue to support as many people as we can, however the real challenge is to rebuild/repair those homes destroyed

by this devastating flood!
