Save Richard Warren's Eye Sight

As with any chronic illness, my dad has been fighting as hard as he can to keep his body from preventing him from living his life.  My dad, Richard Warren, is a 20 year type II diabetic. He has been fighting the up hill battle to keep his blood sugar in control which was complicated by the lack of insurance many years ago. Richard has always had the fortitude to pay his own way and be responsible for his debts. While this is a great virtue, his stubbornness in this idea has gradually led to a life of attempting to make a bottle of insulin last longer than it should or foregoing a doctor's appointment due to the lack of funds. Actions which only worsen his health. My dad is so adamant about this that I've seen him offer to power wash a hospital's parking lot, while having ulcers to both feet, to maintain good standing with debt he owed the hospital. Two years ago my dad had a stroke, and even though he could hardly walk, he went back to work instead of choosing to go on disability, which he could have easily qualified for. Last year he had a blockage to his heart and had to have open heart surgery and the doctors told him he should not try to go back to work. Finally, after trying to gerry rig his health concerns for so long, he allowed a social worker to help him get on disability. Funny thing about disability is that it takes two years of being on disability for a person to qualify for Medicare. So again my dad has been delaying medical care that he needs, and paying for it out of pocket when he can, until this two year waiting period is over. We have 6 months left to wait. Unfortunately, on October 3rd, my dad suddenly went blind. After several out of pocket doctor's visits, and a gradual improvement in his sight, we now know that he has diabetic retinopathy.  While in the doctor's office last week the doctor stated that he wanted to start the procedure that day, but due to the lack of ability for my dad to pay we were told we would need to come back once we have secured the means to finance the procedure. The doctor said if the procedure was done before the end of October he felt it was reasonable that my dad could save his sight, otherwise he felt it was a 75% chance that my dad could be permanently blind.  The procedure that my dad needs will cost between $8,000 and $10,000. My dad can no longer wait for his Medicare to kick in. So I am starting this fundraiser to help save my dad's sight. Any donations that you could offer would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
