My once in a lifetime opportunity!

Donation protected

Hi everybody!

First off I wanted to thank you for taking the time to visit my site, and to thank any of you again that have helped and supported me in the past with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Yes, I am a type one diabetic, diagnosed at age 12, and I can't even begin to explain how horrible it is. Horrible? Yes! Holding me back? NO! A life changing condition that I have no control over, a life time of shots, needles, insulin, sore fingers, NO MORE QUESADILLAS! Sad story I know, but what gets me through it all is the help and support I get from my family, friends, and from my doctor.

Doctor:. Yes, I like the way that sounds. The impact and influence the team of nurses and doctors that have helped me is unreal. To become a doctor, and to have the same impact on another child, the same kind that was bestowed upon me, would be the ultimate dream come true. It is not only my dream, but a goal I am determined to achieve.

I received the letter in the mail that was real fancy (as you can see in the photo above) with the invitation and nomination to attend, and I was surprised and really excited. The Congress (no it has nothing to do with the government, a formal assembly if I may say so) will consist of three full days of meeting face to face winners of the Nobel Prize, award-winning young inventors and scientist, deans from prominent medical schools, leaders of medicine and medical futurists like myself! I will also become eligible for a full medical school scholarship or one of two $10,000 medical school scholarships.

To me this seemed too good to be true! After about four to five pages of reading about the event, and the people that were going to be featured, and yada yada yada, I get to the part that says please send payment to ______. =[ sad face. After seeing the cost to attend and figuring in the cost of travel my heart sank. I was sure there was no way my parents could afford this. I mean heck, I relied on hand me downs from my older cousins most of my life. Too bad they are having babies now and their clothes no longer fit me:. Don't get me wrong though! I am super thankful for everything that I have and wouldn't ask for anything to be different. Except DIABETES of course! I wish no one had to suffer from it. Well I had convinced myself into not wanting to go, I didn't want to ask that much of my parents and then have them feel bad because they might not be able to send me. My older brother on the other hand convinced me that this opportunity was too good to pass up. Not only for the scholarship opportunities but more importantly the knowledge and future of the medical field, the networking opportunities, the support programs for getting into medical school are all there. This was going to be the next step in achieving my goals and he was going to help me get there. He told me come February no matter what it took, I would be in Washington D.C. I had wanted to join the military, but my medical condition prevents that from happening, so my education is all that I have left!

So I am here asking for your help. A small monetary donation to help support my dreams and not only my future, but the future of medicine. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be the doctor for your kid or grand kid. Thank you again if you have made it this far. At the bare minimum if you could, to at least share this link, pass it along for others to see. I understand if you are not able to make a donation, I won't hold it against you. Although the next time you stub your toe and you're hopping up and down on one foot asking whyyyyyyy:.. You'll know why. Just kidding. Being here shows you care at least, unless it was my lame humor then you're just weird.
