My name is Jacob Rodriguez and I'm a current freshman attending MIT, hoping to double major in Aerospace Engineering and Physics to become a NASA astronaut. With myself coming from a background where higher education was never even considered an option, I had to find my own motivation to succeed through family hardship and economic struggle.
However, through the support of outside programs and summer experiences, I was exposed to a whole new world of opportunity and finally realized the impact I was capable of making. After meeting people who both supported me and encouraged my ambition, I was able to accomplish what so many people said was impossible.
So now, I want to make sure every single student like me has that same opportunity. In an effort to be apart of the movement that pushes for education equity among low-income, first-generation, and under-represented populations across the nation I, Jacob Rodriguez, will be biking a total of 378 miles from MIT's campus to Wagner Park, New York City.
Over this 5-day bike trip and the weeks that follow, I will be raising money to support three major organizations that aided in my journey towards self-confidence and success as well as giving $1000 scholarships to high school juniors across the nation coming from under-represented and under-resourced backgrounds. These students will then be mentored through their senior year of high school as a member of the first class of J.D. Scholars, an organization founded by me to promote success among under-served populations.
The bike trip will take place from October 7th - October 11th and the ride will be recorded with updates being released to all donors! A mailing list will be created so that every donor that fills out the google form above will be receiving updates with videos of the ride, where the money is being sent to, and which students are going to be impacted by the contributions.
Any donations are much appreciated and will be directly applied to support the students that need it most. I only wish to inspire these kids as others inspired me. Thank you all for your contributions :)
