Future Forge Mission Statement

The goal of Future Forge Makerspace is to provide access to tools, equipment, knowledge, skills, and space to propel and empower our local community. We aim to make resources accessible to all generations to allow for exploration, innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative growth while understanding how to work together in a productive way.

Future Forge New Building Cause

We are Future Forge. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to community empowerment and access to maker resources. As of January 24th, 2022, Silver City’s independent makerspace, Future Forge, is the proud owner of a new building that will become the new home for the community space to house our equipment, creativity and member-driven resilience.

This new building allows us to secure our place as an organization within the extended community of Silver City and Grant County, New Mexico and be sure that our equipment is available and secure to be accessed by all that wish to explore, experiment, and learn.

This GoFundMe is put together and hosted by the Future Forge Community Makerspace to help push forward our community’s Future of sustainability, resilience, and access, hence the campaign name “Future Forward.”

Donations

Future Forge is requesting $30,000 to ensure the longevity of this location for years to come and to do the initial modifications to the new building to better accommodate all the amazing equipment we have acquired. Over the last two years since our inception, we have done some fantastic community projects and have built up quite the arsenal of equipment and tools!

Equipment that needs accommodation include:

-3D Printers

-Laser Cutter

-Waterjet Cutter (Wazer)

-Jewelry Studio (soldering, smithing, milling, electroplating, vacuum molding, etc.)

-Lapidary/Stone Working (18” rock saw, diamond coated stone grinding, and rock polishing)

-Recording Studio (podcasting, music recording, green screen)

-Electronics room (electronic testing and repair, soldering, oscilloscopes, assorted lengths of wire, circuit board microscopes)

-Computer Lab/Library (high-quality CAD computers, photoshop/digital design, coding computers, and books to learn how)

-Wood Shop (CNC mills, table saw, miter saw, band saw, planer, jointer)

-Metal Shop (welding, grinding, casting, sculpting, blacksmithing, etc.)

-Ceramics (pottery wheels, kilns)

Community Benefits

All proceeds from this campaign will prepare and upgrade the new building premises so that this new location can fully operate how our community needs it to, to accomplish our goals with our overall mission as the Future Forge. This process will be over a five-week period (January 24th to February 28th) to best determine the layout of the new space that will maximize the flow of members, classes, and community events. From our board of directors and members to volunteer ideas and labor, the new building transition process will be guided by the community on how this new space should best be used.

We will be opening this fundraising event up starting on January 25th and will go until April 25th.

Organizational Status

As a New Mexico Nonprofit and IRS tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public organization, we rely heavily on charitable donations, grants, and memberships in order to survive. Any support to our community organization will fund the makerspace’s events, classes, and new building location.
