What an amazing experience this has been to watch strangers helping strangers in a time of need.
Today (9/7) marks ONE WEEK since i sent this text to my friend in Houston. In that time - our amazing community has raised over $15,000. We have practically gutted and rebuilt the Funky Waffle so it is beautiful and ready. This morning, I will fill it with endless supplies donated by all you generous hearts. We will also be driving down with over $450 in gift cards to be used by families in Houston. And my very favorite part - I have exactly $507.53 in individual envelopes with letters from children who donated their OWN money ... these envelopes will be spontaneously given to people in Houston who look like they need a lift ... some came with requests to give it to a mom who looks like she is stressed and the one with $2.53 was given in hopes that it goes to a first responder for some much needed coffee maybe. I am in awe really. It is like kindness and love are contagious up here and I am deeply honored to be able to deliver the Funky Waffle with all of our love to Houston.
The plan right now is to leave this afternoon from Hillendale Elementary School... what a special send off it will be with all those beautiful young faces cheering us on.
Chadds Ford / Kennett Square has a heart the size of Texas that is for sure!!!
Sovana Bistro, a locally owned restaurant in Kennett has stepped up to host a Dine & Donate event on Sunday night - donating and matching 20 percent of the sales. So there is more love to send even after we leave.
The side of the Funky Waffle now says "From the Mushroom Capital of the World to the Lone Star State - we have your back Houston!!! Harvey made us all a little bit Texan!"
We love you all ... truly a magical experience watching a community rise and shine to help strangers in need!!!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
No donation amount is too small. Thank you VERY MUCH for your consideration.
Sincerely - Mary Liz & Bill Cawley
Ann Lewis is act as the temporary beneficiary of this money as it gets distrubuted to families in need.
