Funeral Services for Derrick Lewis

Hi, I am Lori Medeiros, significant other of Derrick Lewis or as many of you may know him, D Lewis. I am writing on behalf of Derrick’s mother, Wilma Lewis and his children Derrick, Marquis, Deandra, Shanice, Nemo, and Camryn.

It is with a heavy heart that we share Derrick’s passing with you all. Derrick was the owner of Straight Edge in Fall River on Pleasant Street. He was well known as, “Master Barber”. Anyone who knows him knows that he was a genuine person, would give you the shirt off his back if needed. He was kind and always had a smile on his face. When you saw D, you saw a can of Bud Light in his hand- he was the life of the party. For these reasons and many more, D was loved and well respected by everyone.

On July 1st, 2023, while enjoying a family cookout, awaiting Derrick’s arrival, rather than him walking through the yard, it was a friend of who told me I had to go to the hospital as Derrick was found unresponsive. From that day til today, July 6th 2023, family and friends have joined at the hospital from day til night fighting for Derrick’s life, hoping to receive good news. Doctors informed us that due to the lack of oxygen to his brain, there was serve swelling and no blood flow. Despite this news, the family had hope and made the decision to keep him on a ventilator. Derrick fought for 5 days, which is longer than expected for someone in this state. Today, July 6th, 2023, with family by his side, his heart stopped.

No one is truly prepared for the aftermath of one’s passing, therefore, we humbly ask for help. Anything and everything is appreciated. The family and I thank you in advance. Derrick may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. He lives on in all of us; mother, children, significant other, grandchildren, clients who became friends and those who will continue to sit in his chair although Master Barber is no longer there. Derrick will live on through memories and stories shared. Again, we all thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.
