Funeral for Richard Meyers shot by Salem Police

Hello everyone, My name is Katie Meyers. I am the oldest sister of Richard Meyers, who was fatally shot by Salem Police in the early morning hours on Monday, February 7th 2022. I am creating this page to raise funds for funeral costs for the Meyers Family to help ease a bit of pressure as we try and mourn the loss of brother, father, son, uncle and friend after this tragic day. Our goal is to raise $4000 so that we may have a service for him and are able to eliminate at least some of the grief that a family experiences after losing a loved one. The average cost of a funeral is somewhere between $6500 and $7000.

Richard would have been 41 this April. He collectted hot wheels, lego sets, and model cars. He spent alot of his time working on cars and tinkering with RC cars. He truely was a big kid at heart. Growing up he always into mischief and trouble. As an adult he always watched out for the underdog. He would give you the shirt from his back even if he didn't have another to put on. Even struggling with homelessness and mental health issues he still did what he could for people. He would let himself go hungary so his dog Zeva could eat. They went everywhere together. Richard is survived by his children. Trinity, Julianna, and Tyler. He also leaves behind a wife, mother, father, 2 sisters and 1 brother. We are working together on arranging services for him and we aren't sure quite where and when they will be held yet. What I do know is I will certainly miss him calling me Yaya and things will not be the same without him.

Update. So after speaking with funeral home about options, we needed to revise the goal. The cost would include basic cremation, use of the chapel for a memorial, and an urn to place his ashes.
