Today our family suffered a terrible loss. A mother and father loss a son and brothers and sisters loss a brother.
Our 14 year old son lost his life to gun violence. He was a bystander in a home where a gun was mishandled. You can read the article here .
Darric was a great kid and a typical teenager. He loved playing video games and was very involved with sports. His father had just taken him to buy track cleats a few days ago in anticipation for the upcoming track season. His mother worked very hard at providing him with a stable home. Both are suffering right now.
I am starting this gofundme account to help pay for funeral costs associated with this tragedy. The parents are broken enough and I can't imagine the added pressures of trying to figure out how they will bury their youngest son together.
I've researched quotes of the average costs of a funeral service with headstone and it ranges from 7k to 10k (update: WRONG). I am going to create this funding page at the 10k (Update: WRONG) , 20k marker because if it is possible for our community to help these grieving parents down to the last penny, may it be done.
I am Darric's step mother. I too am in mourning. I have never heard my husband cry, let alone cry like this. We are all in pain.
Our family will be able to begin funeral arrangements for Darric at 1pm today (3/10/20), we are raising funds for an immediate need. I will be in charge of the final expenses on behalf of my husband, Darric's father.
