The family is raising funds for funeral expenses for Myra C. Begay. Myra was 84 years old.
Myra was the oldest matriarch of the Tsi’naajinnii Shash Diné Clan in the Salt River/Box Springs area. She was the oldest daughter in the Cody family; she was aunt and great aunt to half of the residents in the Grand Falls area. She was mother to Elsie, Sadie and Jane; grandmother to eight, and great-grandmother to eleven. She was also “mom” to Donna and Kayla, and caregiver to many others.
She represented the old ways of Diné traditional culture and teachings, and she only spoke in the Navajo language. She was knowledgeable about traditional kinaaldá ceremonies and guided the making of many alkaan cakes for her family and neighbors. She had a great love for livestock and the old way of life on the ranch: she hauled water and gathered wood, herded sheep and cattle, and cared for horses, enjoying riding in the prime of her life.
Myra assisted her husband Johnny in conducting many healing ceremonies for people throughout the Navajo reservation. For over 40 years they helped and reassured many families in need of spiritual support.
She readily helped-out with family and community events and was a strong presence throughout the area. Myra touched and influenced many lives…and will be warmly remembered by many.
