Brian Metz Medical Emergency

Donation protected

My sister and her husband, Laura and Brian Metz, have long been two of my best friends and heroes. During their nearly 12 years of marriage, they have faced many hardships in ministry, health, and family. For several long years they struggled with infertility, but last December they were finally blessed to be able to adopt sweet Ammi - the best Christmas Eve gift ever. Many of you helped to make that happen. Now, just a few months later, their future is uncertain again.

On June 1, Brian, Laura and baby Ammi spent a beautiful afternoon relaxing on the  coast. The following day Brian suddenly began experiencing severe nausea and stomach pain. Alarmed by his sudden weakness and very high blood sugar, Laura called an ambulance early Thursday morning, June 4. Since that time Brian has been in the ICU fighting for his life.

By the time Brian arrived in the ER, his blood sugar had climbed into the 800s. In order to stabilize him, he was sedated and placed on a ventilator. He was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis and a whole host of serious complications. Two weeks later, he is finally off the ventilator but still in critical condition, struggling to stay alert and keep his blood sugar down. Due to the pandemic, Laura and Ammi have been unable to see him since the ambulance took him away, except for a few short video calls. He is still mostly unresponsive.

In the meantime, Brian, Laura and Ammi have very little income. Due to the pandemic, Brian was furloughed and had only just gone back to work part-time, while Laura stayed home with Ammi. In addition to the usual expenses, they are accruing ICU charges. Please consider helping this sweet family meet their financial obligations as Brian recovers.

Even more importantly, please join us in lifting them up in prayer. Pray that God will calm the fears and bring healing so Brian can come home to Laura and Ammi as soon as possible. Pray that they will continue to trust in God, even when, like Abraham, they cannot see the way out.

“On the mount of the Lord, it shall be provided.” Genesis 22:14
