Fundraising for Michal's lung transplant recovery

Donation protected
Dear friends and community,

We are reaching out to you to share the story of Michal Kucera. Michal is going through the biggest challenge a person can go through. He is in a fight for his life. On March 14th, Michal underwent double heart bypass and double lung transplant surgery.

Michal is one of the kindest people you could ever meet; positive and full of faith in God, but above all, a person who never gives up. He didn't give up when his little 10-year-old daughter passed away due to illness, he didn't give up when his first wife passed away 10 years later, and he ended up raising his other 9 year old daughter all by himself. Despite these obstacles that life has brought, he always says how beautiful life is. He was grateful and hopeful when God brought a new person into his life, Lubka, his present wife of 16 years. Together, they started their journey for better or for worse, in sickness and in health... In 2010, Michal was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent chemo therapy treatment. Treatment was successful and Michal had another chance for life. However, cancer came back a few times over the last several years. Michal was not able to work. The only source of income in the last 14 years was his permanent disability income. Due to three cancer relapses he had to undergo a stem cell transplant in 2020. Our Michal kept fighting with all his might for the gift of life God has given him, and the gift of life is what he has always believed in! Two years after a stem cell transplant, his body started rejecting his lungs and his lung capacity was only 25-30 %. He needed new lungs that could improve the quality of his life. Michael, with his wife by his side, guided by God, once again, started a new 6-month long journey of numerous tests. On March 14, 2024, only two weeks after being placed on the waiting list, a phone call came with some miraculous news… to come to Toronto General Hospital. The Hospital had new lungs for Michael. The surgery, which lasted 10 hours was successful! From now on it will be one step at the time for Michal and this family. Michal and Lubka’s life now consists of long stays in the hospital, his wife constantly traveling between Windsor and Toronto, unable to work in order to care for Michael and relocating to Toronto for 3 months once Michal is released from the hospital care. Michal and his wife will need to find accommodation near hospital for at least 3 months to be able to attend medical follow ups and tests required after the major surgery such as lungs transplant and stay near hospital in case of any emergencies. They are hopeful, staying positive and continuing to fight while taking each day as it comes. They are both physically and financially exhausted. The next 4-5 months of their lives will be extremely expensive, putting the family in great distress. That’s why we are asking you, our community, friends and family members for your prayers and financial support for the Kucera family. Your generosity and support will help Michal to fight again, make his recovery easier and at the same time provide peace of mind to his family. Every little bit will help, and we are grateful for your contribution. Please share this campaign with your network of friends and family,

Thank you,
