Fundraising for funeral and memorial cost

Fund to help me, allow my dad to continue to rest and have a proper finished grave

Hi, my name is Swantay Williams, I’m 25 years old.

I am fundraising for a Burial plot for my step mother and a headstone for my father’s grave.

I was born in Jamaica and came to the uk when I was 5years old with my father (he had married). Sadly he passed away when I was 9, his funeral was in 2006. I was left in the care of my step mum, during this time I was treated like cinderella, I was subject to emotional and physical abuse as well as emotional neglect. I was controlled through superstition and lies, denied access to information and over worked.

My paperwork.. passport, birth certificate and anything else retaining to my legal status In the uk was hidden from me.

I have since then got myself a solicitor, I’ve traveled, I’ve been to university, I’ve moved out and got great friends.

My dad has been buried for 16 years now In a unmarked grave with no headstone or name plate, not once had my step mother or anyone from her family ever visited his grave.

My step mum recently passed away, her family are currently planning her funeral, when my dad passed my step mum had actually purchased a double plot, meaning she would be buried on top of my father. I find it rather insulting and disregarding to my fathers family’s feelings, myself, my siblings, my grandmother and to his memory. It does not sit right on my heart and it adds insult to injury for them to be buried as a married beloved couple when that was not the case during the marriage or after.

Originally I wanted to exhume his body and bury him elsewhere so my step mother would not be buried with him. Upon speaking with a funeral director, I was advised it may be more cost friendly for my step mother to be placed in a different plot, rather than paying for exhumation fee’s and re burial cost.

I’ve spoken with my step sister (next of kin to my step mother) thankfully shes happy to/ will give permission for me to exhume his body or get a separate plot for her mother, I would just have to cover the cost.

The funeral is to be held for the last week of January. So I ask for help raising money so I can purchase a new burial plot and a headstone for my fathers grave.
