Fundraiser for the Burrows Family

For those of you that don't know Rob (pictured on the left), Rob is a young local man (from Portland) that was unfortunately born with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition. It's caused by a faulty gene that affects the movement of salt and water in and out of cells.

This, along with recurrent infections, can result in a build-up of thick, sticky mucus in the body's tubes and passageways – particularly the lungs and digestive system.

Cystic fibrosis tends to get worse over time and can be fatal if it leads to a serious infection or the lungs stop working properly.

Rob has already undergone a double lung transplant but this has unfortunately failed. This means that Rob is now receiving palliative care as time becomes short for him.

Rob has had it tough with regular hospital visits making it hard to work at times. He has still managed to find time to teach young people kickboxing and help manage a Portland United youth football team on a voluntary basis.

Rob has always been upbeat and positive despite the challenges he's faced with his health.

The fund raiser is a great opportunity to pay tribute to Rob, raise awareness of cystic fibrosis and help out a young local family man.

It's Rob's wish that the funds raised go into a trust fund for his sons Cameron (Cam) and Lucas (Luke).

Portland United, with the help of others at the club, have kindly offered to hold an event to raise funds for the Burrows family. Fellow coaches of the youth team will participate in a charity match against Rob’s friends and family.

The day looks set to be a great family day out for what I feel is a great cause.
