On Monday, May 22, 2023, Shelson Jules (known to some as JJ) was tragically shot and killed one block from his home. This tragedy has impacted everyone in Shelson's community: family, friends, loved ones, even strangers who have only heard how kind and compassionate Shelson was. Shelson was only 22 years old, and his life was taken far too soon. We are blessed to have had the gift of his life for the years he was with us.

About Shelson

Shelson was born on November 27, 2000. He was many things: a loving son and brother, a devoted partner, a generous friend, a caring uncle, an aspiring cat dad, a silly dancer.

Shelson's family immigrated to the U.S. after suffering loss in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Shelson was only 11 years old. Their family moved to America for a fresh start and aspired to live the American Dream. Shelson was extremely committed to his family, and after he graduated high school, he spent a few years at UMass Boston before leaving to help support his family. He was working to save up and help his family buy a new home.

Shelson's life was full of love. Just two years ago on May 23, 2021, Shelson met his girlfriend Alex. Shelson was loved immensely by Alex and her family, who are grieving the loss of his brightness, presence, and humor. Shelson was also an uncle to his 8-month-old niece and spent many hours caring for her. Shelson discovered his love for cats through spending time with Alex's elderly cat, Ruby, and was a week away from adopting a kitten for his family.

Shelson was spontaneous, gentle, generous, dedicated, kind, loving, patient, playful, sweet, and silly.

Fundraising Goals

We are raising money for Shelson's family to help with funeral costs, which will be around $15,000. If we meet this goal, we will continue to raise money for the family in their grieving and the immense impact Shelson's death has had on their lives. 100% of funds raised will go directly to the family.
