Fundraiser For Recovery

Donation protected
UPDATE MAY 1, 2018. Karen's clot has dissolved and she is being sent home today to begin recovery.  Since Karen is not permitted to drive for some time, the doctors have arranged for Physiotherapists to come to Karens home 5 days a week, 5 hours a day to start rehabilitation of Karens total right side of her body.  She will need to learn so much all over again.  Even simple things like how to use a vegetable peeler or a knife. How to walk correctly.  It will be a long and difficult road but she is a tough cookie and she will get to the end of that road and be back to her old self.  The Doctors think it will take at least 3 months. She will of course be out of work for that entire period. END UPDATE

Karen Doucette suffered a massive stroke on April 26th and is still in the hospital (as of the writing of this on Apr. 30).  Everyone who knows Karen knows she is an awesome woman, mother, wife, friend, neighbour and Maritimer.

In the preceding days to her stroke, her wrist and arm had been hurting and then stopped working.  Although she had seen 3 doctors, including in the Emergency Room, the fact that it was the beginning of a full stroke was missed by all.

Karen has a clot in her carotid artery - the main one in her neck.  They are not using clot blockers to get rid of the clot quickly as there is a risk of the clot breaking and going to her brain which would kill her, so they are slowly using other means to dissipate it and she will remain in the hospital until she is out of danger and it has fully gone.  Then recovery starts.  Slow but sure.

As you all know, Norm has his own medical issues and as working parents they depend on both their incomes.  Karen will not be able to go back to work for 3 months or longer, and as she is a full commission sales person she will not be getting paid during this illness.  They have a mortgage and other bills to pay (like we all do) but now there is no money until she goes back to work.  They need your help.

Karen is starting physiotherapy for her face and arm muscles and stress from worry about how the bills will be paid is the last thing either of them need.  All her life Karen has been the one who helps everyone else, and it is difficult for both of them to be in this position now, where it is they who need help.  I know we all want to help them as much as we can and if anyone ever needed Go Fund Me it is now them.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Even small amounts all add up.  So many people have asked Norm, "What can we do to help".  If you can donate please do.  If you cannot, then please share so that others can.

PS: Norm sucks at cooking.  If you live close by and feel so inclined, please drop off a fully cooked meal :-)  He was living on bags of chips :-) ... the girls too.  It is very difficult when under this much stress to do normal things like cook a meal.  Its hard enough trying to get some sleep between hospital visits.

I know they thank you all from the bottom of their hearts.
