I Ola Kākou, Ka Lāhui
“Every day,” she says, “I challenge myself, asking what impact will I have on my lāhui, how can I contribute to the well-being of our people?
What is my kuleana today?”
So when the lāhui calls, she answers: we good; we get um. And the lāhui calls all the time.
“Aunty Tammy, you and Unko Danny still good for ʻAha Kāne at Waiʻanae?” We good.
“Aunty, can host the Mālama Honua Charter School fundraiser?” We get um.
“Aunty, can cook for my hālau at Merrie Monarch.” We get um.
“Aunty, how we going feed 5,000 Aloha ʻĀina Unity Marchers for free?” We good; we get um.
“Aunty, what about ʻai pono lunches for 300 keiki at eight schools…Māmā Hōkūleʻa coming home…aku bone booth with the kids of Koʻolau ʻĀina Momona, bingo night for Pūnana Leo o Honolulu…Huli Ka Lima i Lalo for Hikaʻalani…what about the QLCC Koʻolaupoko conference…the Kai Oni Canoe Club banquet…Aunty, can take over feeding our kūpuna at Lunalilo Home…Can?” We good; we get um.
Now, when Tammy and Danny are not all good and all able, it is our turn, the lāhui’s turn, to answer a call that they are too humble to voice.
