Fundraiser for Costa Rica- Flood support
Costa Rica has been hit by serious flooding over the past few weeks and the situation is getting worse.
My friends and I have a contact at Reto Juvenil Internacional (RJI)- a non-profit NGO that we have worked with since 2017. RJI focuses on providing marginalized communities with the support they need to recover from natural disasters as well as support education, environmental conservation and community organization. Today, after more than 20 years of hard work, RJI is proud to support the communities of Central America with over 540 development projects.
The Director of RJI, Fabio, is a friend to us, the organizers of this campaign, ever since we worked together to fundraise and participate in infrastructure projects.

The areas most affected by the flooding have been central, northern and eastern areas such Turrialba, which is only 60 kilometers (37 miles) east of San José with severe flooding and major infrastructure damage. Costa Rica is a 51,180 km² country with both oceans Pacific and Atlantic surrounding it- so the whole country is being affected by this situation.
As of July 27th, 3,000 people have been forced to seek refuge from the extreme weather into emergency shelters such as classrooms located in high areas.
Now Costa Rica is under a "red alert" declared by the National Emergency Commission (CNE) for more flooding and landslides due to a new Tropical Storm #19.
This one will hit San Carlos, Upala, Guatuso and the Caribbean zones of Limón, Matina, Talamanca, Sarapiquí and Turrialba again.
