My Business
KGB Fitness is a health and fitness community, founded in 2008 and offers Personal Training, Coaching, Retreats and Outreach mainly, but always looking to build community in any situation. It is not surprising that a community built on the principals where people feel informed, supported, encouraged, connected, accountable and safe is highly desirable. My hope is to reach as many people as possible through boot camps, classes, workshops, coaching, training, retreats and other health and fitness related events, services, products and outreach.

KGB Fitness started in the NY/NJ area but is expanding in order to be able to reach and impact more people. Some of the "best practices" we have been able to put in place in New York/New Jersey deserves to be modeled in other places. It is for that reason that I relocated to the LA area as home base March 2015. Over the year KGB Fitness has been improving it's services and impact by adding online training, retreats, community reach and improving it's social media marketing.
Outreach: KGB Fitness will be going into communities that don’t already have health and fitness programs in place, create new programs, establish a strong fitness community, train people to help lead these programs thus creating new jobs and then move on to another community to repeat the process and grow the KGB Fitness Community.
A good business plan means transparency in how the funds will be used. The list below shows you how your donation will be put to work and below that, my personal back story.
This transition has proven to be extremely challenging thus far but I'm still hopeful, grateful and excited about the possibilities, opportunities and adventures. I've been blessed with amazing clients and the support of friends and family. To take this business to the next level now challenges me to move beyond my own comfort zone and ask others to make an investment in KGB Fitness and to put their trust in my vision and plans. Many of you have been investing in my life for years, sometimes financially, most of the time with grace, encouragement and love.

KGB Fitness Branding, Messaging and Marketing of 50% - Taking my business across the country requires a strong brand that stands out and draws people in and then the marketing and advertising (updated website, t-shirts/other gear, flyers/banners/promotion materials, videos, photos...) to make the KGB Fitness brand grow. Someone told me that in order to "make money", you have to "spend money" and in a world where "presence" is "presentation" this is such a key ingredient to getting our message out and telling it well.
KGB Fitness Sustainable Support of 50% - Includes good book keeping, fund development, technology support, reducing business debt and ongoing education. I rely on trusted advisers, my accountant and a network of professionals to help me continue to be accountable and relevant. It also should be noted that gofundme.com (which I chose after a lot for research) takes a small cut to host a fundraising campaign. I will also plan to continue my education with certifications to become a Doula, wellness coach and explore other courses which will challenge me, be beneficial to my clients and become the best options for the continued growth of my business.
I will keep working hard on my own to save as much as possible and applying for grants when available.

My Personal Story
I was born in South Carolina, adopted as a toddler and raised in Michigan. I moved to the NYC area in 2003 to attend the official school of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
Most all of my life, my work, even while in school was based on making life more efficient and purposeful for those around me. I have a strong love for community, especially within the urban core and have found myself reaching others with both encouragement and compassion. I love outreach, community building and helping others. My first job in the tri-state area was as a Community Outreach Coordinator for a Jersey City local non-profit. My work brought me directly into the community, allowing me to get to know firsthand the neighborhood, the needs of the residents and to created programming which would fit their needs and strengthen the community at large. An after school program was formed providing homework help, job training, fine arts based classes and is still growing and thriving some 10 years later!
After a series of injuries I began to question the longevity of a career in dance. It was at this time, that I began to explore the opportunities that a career in fitness would bring. I found I had natural gifts and love for building a business plan, which included my dance education and my emerging interest in health and fitness. These things combined with my growing passion for creating community, especially living in such a large metropolis like New York, appeared to not only meet my giftedness but a longing others have in a large city to "get healthy" and "get connected". With that in mind, KGB Fitness was birthed!
