We want to thank for all the help as we have shared the help with in the families.Unfortunately, after talking to police it seems that there will be no criminal charges against the driver. Also after getting some legal aid it looks like there will be very little help from the insurance to help our family. This is defiantly very difficult to news to hear after all the pain and suffering our family has been through the last couple weeks. On the night of July 5 my family and I were waiting for my 5 year old brother, my 18 old sister and my 20 year old cousin to come back from playing from our local park. However needing only one more block to reach home, they never made it back that night.
As they made sure to look both ways before crossing the cross walk and trusted a car would give them the right away. The last thing they all remember was the head lights only inches from their faces. As my cousin, who is in her third year at UC Riverside, sustained fractued ribs and damaged internal organs that included a closed heart valave that needed surgery. My sister was found about 2 feet way from the car with a broken ankle, torn knee ligaments and fractures in her right hip that will need multiple surgeries to repair. My 5 year old brother was dragged and found under the car where he sustained fructed right pelvis and furctued spine. As he will now need to stay in the hospital to have daily physical therapy to gain feeling in his legs. These are very serious physical injuries but there were also many mental injuires as they are having nightmares from that night. As it may take years to be fixed for all the family. They will need 24/7 care from everyone in our family.
However, we want take care of them and give them all the support they need to feel better and as soon as possible. Since they will be making great sacrifices such as my baby brother not being able to start Kindergarden in the fall, my sister unable to start her college courses and my cousin not being able to return to UCR next month. Since we are both from Oakland and are from low-income families, missing work is not always option but may have to be the only option.
As the eldest sister who has helped taken care both my sister and brother at the hospital. I know how much my mother is struggling with trying to pay the rent and taking care of my baby brother and sister at the same time . As she is the bread winner of the family will soon have to stop working to take care of 5 year brother, my 9 year old sister and now my 18 old sister. Even though will we might get some aid that does not cover everything.
So if you are willing to help our family which also includes my cousin Jackie familiy during this very difficult time from paying for things like rent, utility bills, getting gas for the car to go the hospital, or for the medical expenses for all them that may not be covered we greatly appreciate it. Since want we want most right now as for them to fully recover. Even though we are cousin, we are also each other's best friends. I will give the funds from my bank account to my family personal account in person so they can each benift from all of your help. Please if money donations are not possible just please send us positive thoughts as make sure they all return back home and recover.
