I need your help and support to finish seminary. I have been working very hard over the past 4 years to earn my Masters in Divinity and become a priest in the Episcopal Church. I have been struggling to do it on my own, putting much of it on loans. For some hardheaded reason, I felt I had to do it this way to prove that I was truly called to ministry. I found out recently that I will not be eligible for any financial aid this summer. I need one final class to graduate from Asbury, and two classes from Nashotah to finish my Anglican Studies Certificate.
Initially, I was devastated at the news. How am I going to pay for all this? After several days of reflection and prayer, I realized something. I have been robbing many of you of the ministry opportunity to walk alongside me, both in prayer and financial support. For this I am truly sorry. Not just because I've taken too much on myself, but also because I failed to trust both you and God.
This year I began my final year at Asbury, and my Anglican Studies Certificate through Nashotah House. I have been abundantly blessed to continue to teach, preach, and visit the shut-ins at St. Benedict's Parish in South Florida, near my husband's military base. I have also been able to return and visit Church of the Messiah, my home parish, to preach and serve at the altar, although not as often as I would like.
My courses at Nashotah have deepened my love for the Episcopal Church, and for serving the calling to the Priesthood that God has given me. I understand now, more than ever, that to the Priesthood is a call to be the "cure of souls." This doesn't mean the Priest does it all herself, to show how much God has blessed them. Like Moses needed Aaron to speak for him, priests need other people to walk alongside them in ministry. Not because they are not called, but because God designed ministry that way. I apologize once again for denying you that opportunity to minister to, with, and through me. Please pray for me as I finish out seminary. If you are able, and you discern God's call to do so, would you also support me financially? Whatever amount you feel led to give will truly be a blessing.
