CEASRA and others are currently appealing the recently issued DEP landfill permit. People question the reasons and costs of the appeal. We are appealing because the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection failed to properly evaluate the permit. They did not appropriately consider the $12,000,000 negative impact on our real estate value. They failed to consider the danger to aircraft. They failed to consider the impact of oil field residual waste which is known to contain radioactive material. They failed to consider what the chemistry of decades old hazardous waste might have on the workers, resident, streams and wetlands.
The DEP decided to issue a permit for a highly complex nighttime centric landfill to a company with over 140 violations documented in their permit application. We are appealing because the 2018 Tri-County application included plans for a 160-foot landfill which arrogantly flies in the face of the courts’ rulings. This shows a total disregard of the courts, zoning and residents. The appeals cost is estimated to be about $60,000. This burden is shared by Liberty Township, Pine Township and CEASRA.
