Fund Raising for Maressa's Care

Donation protected
(Story narrorated and organized , by Chrissy Wecht ) On December 31, 2018, Maressa Hiatt (My Daughter in-law) was out celebrating early for the New Year that was to come. That same night the roads progressively got worse and were covered with ice. As she was on her way home she has lost control of the car and ran head on into a utility pole, and totalled her car.  Between the impact of the air bag, and the initial hit straight into the pole had cause massive injury to Maressa. She was taken into the trauma unit unresponsive.  Diagnosed with severe brain trauma, broken collar bone, broken jaw (in two places,) broken ribs, and two broken vertabrae.  For two weeks (todays date: Jan. 14th) Maressa was placed on a ventilator , due to her not breathing on her own, and still no direct command movement and had yet to open her eyes.   Just two day ago from the date above Maressa started to breathe on her own. One eye barely opens, and some slight movement that only responds to pain, or discomfort. She is still unresponsive as a whole, and no response /reaction to Docs, family members, or additional vistors. Recently she has had surgery to repair her jaw, the removel of the bolt in her head to measure her ICP (number for her head pressure) , and doctors were able to finally get an MRI. Maressa was Diagnosed with Diffuse Axonal Injury. Brain damage  was viewed as sporadic throughout the brain.  Although, Maressa has not woken up after two weeks and still very broken in various regions throughout her body, Docs have decided that it was now time to transport her to rehab for extensive physical and occupational therapy ( Planned Transport Tuesday Jan. 16th). There is a very real chance that Maressa may not wake up, but there is also a chance for her to get the therapy that she needs if and when she wakes up.  We do not know the extent to which she will recover, but there is always our hope and faith that she will have a life with some quality...But at this time we just dont know, and it's too early for a fair assumption. Now, although Maressa does have insurance to cover some of  these medical bills, they all will not be covered by her plan. This will include cost of the extended stay in the Trauma Unit. However, she will also be placed in a rehab facility. This facility will need to be equipped for respiratory in-care, due to the trach she will have to have for quite some time. There are only just a few of these rehab facilities available for her exclusive care.  Above as explained is a huge part of the financial burden that is to be expected to be paid out, However, that  is only half of the issue that would need to be taken care of..... Prior to Maressa's accident , Tonya, Maressa's mother had lost her job. The company she had been working for had shut down, within this time she had lost her car and home, both. She is currently living in a hotel off the last couple of checks that the company had owed her.    Tonya has been getting transportation to and from the hospital by family members at this time. She also has two other kids that she has to take care of as well. On top of battling cancer. Her husband if 18 years has decided to leave, which will leave her homeless. He is only paying her $25 a week in child support. At this time her time is consumed with Maressa right now, while splitting up the hours to be with her kids at home. Tonya is obviously aware of the reality that she will be taking care of Maressa even after she leaves the rehab facility, and during this time Tonya needs to obtain a car so she can be a part of Maressa's care at the rehab, and for getting to point A to point B for her daily runs, and objectives. She also needs to obtain a home that can secure her and her family, including room for whatever the rehab may send home with Maressa for her care, and ongoing therapy.  It is unknown if Tonya will be able to go back to work , since she will be taking care of Maressa, which could possibly be around the clock, and currently she is barely making it day by day.    This is a tragedy that none of us would ever want to go through. It's heartbreakingly sad. I have cried many tears for this family that truly needs help in the most incredible way. If you can help this family out we humbly thank you for your generosity and kindness. It takes a special kind of person to help those you do not know, but know that this family would be deeply touched by your giving heart. Please note: Maressa also has a 3 year little boy (my grandson, Aiden) that is also included in this funding. Although his daddy has him currently and he is in good care and doesn't go without, finances can be a bit tight as well without the help of the combined income by mom(Maressa) and Dad (my son) THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!! GOD BLESS LOVE AND LIGHT TO YOU!
