Fund For Mari's Safety

Please help us raise funds to keep Mari housed, fed and above all- safe. The funds raised with this GoFundMe will go towards housing, food and safety. 

Mari is currently living in an unsafe housing situation. She not only takes care of herself, but she is financially responsible for her father and aunt. As a 24 year old, Mari has already had to take on more responsibilities than most people do in a lifetime. Even though she is working to keep a roof over her head and her family’s, she is not safe.

The funds will keep her housed and safe for two months while she continues to work, in order to find a more suitable living situation that she can call home, and not live in fear. Mari works as a sex worker which is a very hard job and having a safe place to reclude back into, is not only a matter of physical safety but necessary. She lead the BLM movement from the first day of the protests in 2020 and co-founded the Sex Workers Liberation activist group in New York. She has run educational workshops on the importance of bringing awareness, understanding and decriminalization of the sex work industry. She has organized actions against police brutality and ICE. She formed an activist coalition in the Bronx, her home, to bring awareness to social issues and form a self-sustaining movement. She has grown personally and helped everyone in the movement grow with her. She has held space for allies and put in the emotional labor to help non-Black people understand the harm they cause, how their actions affect Black people, and bring awareness to the gender discrimination and medical racisms that Black people face every day in the world.

TW: Sexual, emotional & physical assault
Mari has also recently been a victim of sexual, emotional physical abuse. She was in a relationship with someone that for an entire year, he violated her independence, femininity, strength, resourcefulness, drive, motivation, emotion and physical body. He took advantage of her financially and shamed her for the work Mari was doing while financially taking care of him. She was consistently told that no one would believe her and he had a much bigger social media platform that he would silence her. She protected him for a year and blamed her bruises on her own clumsiness to protect him.  When she went public with it, she was gaslit and blamed for the entire harm caused to her. He made it seem like he was the victim holding her hostage when he had sexually emotionally and physically abused her. 

Mari is a one in a million human. She is a human activist, friend, leader and teacher. If you are in her corner, she will stop at no expense to keep you safe and out of harm's way even if that means putting herself in harmful situations. She is a true ride or die. She is the epitome of a  momma-bear, always protecting her people even if they don’t know what she is doing behind the scenes to keep them safe. She gives everyone the love she wants to receive with no expectation of anything in return. She is sharp, quick and incredibly resourceful. Her smile is infectious and makes you believe that nothing is wrong in the world when you hear her laugh. She has been a fighter all of her life and this is our time to help her.

Mari will be working out-of-state to be able to earn enough money to get her own place. She is currently out of her unsafe New York living arrangement but she is still not safe. Mari needs these funds urgently, please help us reach her goal to keep her safe. Please amplify and donate what you can, anything and everything is appreciated.
