Dear Friends and Lovers of Dance,
As we all know, dance is not the most lucrative career. This is one of those moments when that truth comes home hard. Claire Bataille, the original muse of the Hubbard Street Dance Company, without whom that beautiful company would not exist, needs our support. She faces an enormous life challenge with a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Claire has given so much to so many. In addition to setting the standard of excellence at Hubbard Street, Claire has inspired generations of dancers, mentored them and coached them, and has healed and educated through Pilates. Claire is also a beloved friend and mother. Take a moment to recall her onstage, in class, recall the clarity of her artistry, the freedom, musicality, discipline, and passion of her dancing, her teaching.
This is our moment to give back. For all the beauty that Claire has poured into the world, for all the gifts that she’s given to us, it’s time now for us to support her in spirit, in action, and through donations. Claire has begun a course of chemotherapy which will take 6-8 months. During this time she needs financial assistance to support her medical care and her daily living expenses.
