Erika's Naomi's Village Internship

Donation protected
Last winter, I spent two weeks visiting Naomi's Village, a children's home in Maai Mahiu, Kenya. There, I built friendships with the NV kids and staff, learning much about God's love, care, and provision from them in the process. This summer, I have the amazing opportunity to return and spend 8 weeks as an NV intern, exploring my passions for education and interpersonal connection in a nonprofit setting. I need your help to get the funding to make this possible!

About Naomi's Village
Naomi's Village is a nonprofit organization based in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, just outside of Nairobi. They run a children's home with 82 kids of all ages as well as a preschool and primary school that provide quality education to the wider Maai Mahiu community.  The organization's mission is to glorify God in serving Kenyan children by providing spiritual, physical and emotional healing, that they may grow to impact their world.  Check out NV's website here for more information!

But Why Do You Need to Go, Erika?
Spending this summer interning at Naomi's Village is very important to me for three reasons.
First, this internship will give me unique experience in several different fields that I'm considering pursuing after graduation. At Naomi's Village, I will be planning, organizing, and running creative writing and art workshops for the kids, in addition to helping with logistical intern duties. This will allow me to combine my interests in education, nonprofit work, and art, and, hopefully, give me perspective on which options I want to pursue in the future.
Second, I want to continue to strengthen the friendships that I made at Naomi's Village when I visited in December.
Third, and most importantly, I want to use my gifts and talents to make the world a better place, and this internship offer from Naomi's Village offers a perfect opportunity to do so. If you've ever had a conversation with me for longer than about 20 minutes, you'll know that my faith is very important to me. I believe in NV's mission, and I hope to glorify God with my summer by using my time and energy to love others.

What Will You Use the Money For?
This funding will cover my plane tickets to and from Kenya, my room and board at Naomi's Village, and personal and medical expenses for the summer. I hope to raise $5000 in the next month to cover these costs.

Do You Really Need MY Help, Though?
Short answer: Yes. Yes, I do, very much. It doesn't matter if you donate $5 or $500, every bit helps, and I appreciate every bit. I would encourage you to look on this as an opportunity to help support both a good cause and a good friend, because your support really does mean a lot to me, no matter the monetary amount.
I also would deeply appreciate your good wishes and prayers as I trust God's provision for this summer. As I'm sure you know if you've ever tried to fundraise, fundraising is terrifying. It puts your future in the hands of others, it makes you feel like an imposition, and it feels self-serving. However, the very fact that this scares me also excites me, because I know that God works most powerfully through my weaknesses. As Paul puts it in 2 Corinthians 12:9, "I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
