Here's how you can help...
If you haven’t met her already, we want to introduce you to our amazing friend, Amanda. Amanda is the mother of three beautiful kids, Reagan 9, Charlie 7, and Elliot 2.5, and the wife to her wonderful and hard-working husband, Andrew. Amanda was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008. Eight months after her initial diagnosis, doctors told her that she was in remission, but another four months later the cancer returned. She again celebrated remission in July 2010. Amanda remained cancer-free for the next 3 years. During this time she started the Occupational Therapy graduate program at Western Michigan University in September 2011, and against the odds, gave birth to her youngest son in January 2012. However, in February 2013 Amanda received devastating news from doctors that her cancer had returned for the third time. This time it had spread to her bladder, and soon after, also to her kidneys.
So yeah…a sucky situation. Recently, things have gotten even more difficult. Because of a complication in a work transition for Andrew, Amanda and her family were left without insurance for three weeks. This may not seem like much time, but three weeks without insurance left them with a $10,000 debt that they have to pay from their own pockets.
You can imagine how much the insanely high costs of fighting this awful disease for the past 6 years have added up if a $10,000 debt accumulated in just 3 weeks. Between co-pays, additional payments, and costs of everyday life outside of medical centers, the debt seems insurmountable, but even still, we have never heard Amanda complain about what they lack. Amanda and her family are truly fighters and refuse to give up.
This is where you come in. We want to step into the ring for Amanda and her family by coming up with the money together to pay for that $10,000 and maybe even beyond. We can’t fight the physical, mental, and emotional battles they are fighting day in and day out, but we can come together to fight for them in this way. Asking for help is a hard thing to do, especially when it involves finances. Amanda and Andrew’s humility and determination have gotten them far, but with your help, we hope to minimize this family’s financial burdens and move Amanda closer to being cancer-free.
