Fund a drug for Lindsey

UPDATE 29/7/17
Hi everyone,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this update.
I recently had a PET scan which showed that the cancer has relapsed before I had even finished my treatment. I have another lump on my back near the site of the original tumour and it has also spread throughout both of my lungs. It is now not curable, and any treatment that I have will be to try to buy me more time by slowing the progression of the disease. High dose chemotherapy and stem cell rescue is no longer an option because if they harvest stem cells from me, they will be contaminated with cancer cells.
I will be having a different combination of chemotherapy in just over a week's time.

This means that I do not now need to fund the drug plerixafor for a stem cell harvest. Instead, I plan to use the money raised to enjoy as much time with my kids as possible through days out and holidays. I have also got plans to make the children a patchwork quilt each and will use the money to send them to be professionally quilted.

Thank you again for all of your support through this difficult time.

***********************************************

Hi, my name is Lindsey and I am a mum to 4 beautiful and lively kids all under the age of 10. In November last year I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. I started a blog to document my journey, you can find it here:

https://www.facebook.com/mummysgotcancer/

I have completed the induction chemotherapy and had surgery to remove the tumour from my back but sadly it had not responded as well to chemo as it should have. Due to this I am now at high risk of a relapse, and relapses cannot be cured.

Because of this my wonderful team at the Churchill hospital in Oxford would like me to have a treatment to reduce my risk of a relapse. This treatment is high dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue. For this treatment I need to harvest stem cells which are then given back to me following the high dose chemo. Without the stem cells I cannot have the treatment as it would kill me. Last week I attempted my first harvest but sadly it failed due to the large amounts of chemotherapy I had already had, making my bone marrow too tired to make any stem cells.

My consultant recommends I take a break before I attempt a second harvest to allow my bone marrow to rest. Due to the risk of relapse, I will continue my scheduled chemotherapies of which I have 3 left. Then following a 3 month rest we will have a second attempt. This has a very high failure rate unless I can have a drug called Plerixafor, which evicts the stem cells from the bone marrow into my blood stream, where they can be collected by the aphresis machine.  The NHS will only fund three doses of this drug because at £4883 per dose it is very expensive. I have had two doses already but it did not work as there were no stem cells to evict. We have saved the third dose to use on the next attempt. Sadly, to have anymore of this drug we need to pay for it privately, which is why I have set up this gofundme.

We want to pay for three more doses of Plerixafor to try to make sure the second harvest is a success. A stem cell transplant will improve  my 5 year survival rate significantly, and I need to do all that I can so that I can be here to watch my children grow up.

So far we have raised an amazing £11,000 through this page and other places, so we don't have far to go to reach the £14,649 needed.

Please, help if you can, thank you.

* If we surpass the amount we need for the drug then I will use the left over donations towards travelling expenses, each trip to hospital is a 70 mile round trip and I often haven to do this several times a week.

** Please note, donations will not count as raffle entries.
