Full Court BLITZ on Covid-19

We all know the most important thing we can do to help flatten the Covid-19 curve is to STAY HOME and continue SOCIAL DISTANCING, but we here at BLITZ want to do more. When we created a non-profit club to provide quality sports programming for kids we also believed in using our club to contribute and give back to the community - what better time to continue to do so. Most of us have been "benched" because of the virus outbreak, forced to sit on the sidelines, as others bravely take on this invisible opponent. Our health care providers are risking their lives and the lives of their families just by going to work everyday. They are front and center in the game of our lives against this virus. By now everyone knows that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is in short supply. This is where we think we can provide an "assist".
Our non-profit basketball club - Blitz Basketball & Sports Club has already made a donation of $1,246, which has been put towards a 50% deposit to secure the delivery of 2000 Medical Masks to be donated to the PPE Donations Hamilton Health Sciences Centre. Although not the coveted N-95 masks, after speaking to several medical professionals in Hamilton, these medical masks will not only be of great use for care of non-Covid-19 patients but they may also be used to help preserve the N-95 masks that doctors and nurses are now being told they must re-use and conserve. Wearing these masks may help prolong the use of the N-95 masks. The first order of 2000 masks should be arriving in 10-15 days from the start of this campaign. Money raised from this fundraiser (hopefully:)) will cover the balance owing on arrival. Our hope however is to surpass the funds needed for this initial order and to make additional orders in the near future.
With our current supplier this order of 2000 Medical Masks costs approximately $2500 (wont know final price until delivered). Thank you to my good friend Franco Esposto from Ann's Fabric for providing us the contact and facilitating this transaction so quickly!
We will also keep exploring all and any options presented to us in bringing in any PPE materials to help our front line health providers in Hamilton. If anyone knows of any supplier that can get us any type of masks or any of the PPE materials that are needed, please do let us know so that we can further investigate those options. Additionally, we also hope to raise enough money through this campaign to donate to Hamilton local food banks who also are in great need. With food bank donations we would try to utilize donations that will be matched by private grocery chains to further enhance our donation.
We will use 100% of all funds raised to help support both needs (masks and food) . Every penny spent from this campaign will be tracked and posted.
It's time for all of us to get into the game and again, the best way we can do that is by Staying Home and Social Distancing. For anyone looking for additional ways to help in this fight please do consider contributing. All funds will be used in the Greater Hamilton Area. I'm sure we all know someone putting their lives at risk so we can stay healthy and fight this Virus.
