Jo's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Our mum was diagnosed with Oral Cancer in October.

On the 23rd of December she went into surgery to remove the Cancer and Lymph Nodes in the neck. The operation was successful. However early on Christmas morning our family was called in urgently after being informed that mum had suffered a Cardiac Arrest. Thankfully she was stabilised but due to lack of oxygen to her brain, she was put into an induced coma in which she stayed for five days.

Brain damage due to lack of oxygen was a worry to all of us. When she woke, our worst fears were realised, it had manifested in a loss of vision, making her, effectively, blind. We were told she suffered a Visual Cortex Infarction.

The consultants do not know if she will ever regain her sight. We have now also been given the news that mum will need 6 weeks of Radiotherapy to try to remove the last of the cancer in her neck.

We are hoping mum will be sent home soon. When she does return, she will need adaptations to our home as well as a carer to help with her everyday tasks.

Our dad is self employed and has to juggle work and looking after mum as well as taking care of our younger brother. Mum was originally hoping to go back to work after 3 months but this is now not going to happen. As mum was such an active, independent and busy person previously, the coming months will be extremely difficult for her. Life changing in a way we couldn't possibly have imagined.

All who know her, know what an incredible person she is. She brings so much love and joy to everyone. The last few weeks have been so difficult for us as we came so close to losing our wonderful mum. Thankfully she is recovering but the coming months are going to be extremely challenging for us all.

She has been so strong, brave and positive throughout this and the last thing we want is our mum worrying about financial stability whilst she goes through the huge upheaval she will face in adapting to a new way of life once she is home, potentially not being able to work again as she did previously.

We are hoping to raise money to keep our family stable and together through these coming difficult times. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any donations to help our mum would be so incredibly appreciated by all of us.❤
