Miss Nicole Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund has been created in memory of Nicole Jones who taught for the Alameda Unified School District for 16 years. Nicole's philosophy for teaching was that "education is not just what children learn from their textbook. The most important type of education is that which is allowed when a teacher is full of ideas and understands that a child learns through doing and experimenting with the objects to be learned. Children learn and appreciate learning by touching and sampling or putting themselves in each others' shoes." She felt a strong tie to children and hoped to be a part of their lives and to guide them effectively through the wonderful yet fragile years of being a child. That dream fell short of her lifetime goal when she was diagnosed with cancer and survived long enough to see her 41st birthday.  All those who knew Nicole recognized that she was a perfect  fit to pursue a career that required monumental levels of patience and empathy, both traits that she so effortlessly embodied. Her magnanimous heart consistently gave to those in need of extra support.

In establishing this scholarship, Nicole's family and friends wish to recognize one outstanding student from an Alameda high school and provide financial aid for their goal of achieving a degree in the field of Education. This scholarship shall be awarded to a graduating senior each year for a period of two years at which time donors will determine future funding.
