Hi all,
My name is Theo, I'm a 29 year old artist trans man and am preparing to get gender confirmation surgery here New Jersey in 2021.
After the New Year, I was hospitalized with heart complications with the flu/an unknown COVID strain. A few weeks later, I was aldi off by my transphobic employer while I had an OSHA complaint out against them for violating COVID19 safety measures. This has made affording my surgery and rest time afterwards incredibly difficult.
While the main surgery is covered by insurance here in NJ, there is breast tissue around my armpits and back that isn't included. This requires an additional $1,500 out of pocket costs to remove this tissue. Additionally, I will need help with transportation to and from the procedure as well as transportation for my follow up one week after.
After the surgery, I will have to be spending unpaid time off at home for two weeks rest before returning to work. I am starting this gofundme to ask my community for help. I know everyone is struggling this year with COVID-19, the economic crisis, and other issues. If you can't donate, please feel free to share with your social network to get the word out.
