Niko's vet bill

Donation protected
Back story. Our 18 month old Siamese kittie Niko became ill on 12/9/17. As the day progressed he got slower & started to hide. I called the vet in A.M & was seen that evening (Severna Park, MD). Xray showed a chest full of fluid. Vet thought it might be his heart so off to PET ER In Columbia, MD that has a cardiologist in house to do a Eko. He was admitted.  Told no cardiologist until morning. Gave us options for the night. They drained his chest of fluid & put him in OC2 tank. Here's were things go south. Day Shift vs night shift. A second xray was supposed to be done after drainage to look at heart. IT WASN'T DONE! Then staff had nerve to say we declined Eko from Cardiologist.  Blood work was done. Heart disease was negative. We agreed on fluid being sent out 1st a culture & 2nd fungal. They also wanted to do a FIP test (fatal cat disease). We agreed to culture & fungal tests. I made comment if both come back negative then we're looking at the actual suspected FIP or cancer. Was told 1-2 weeks for culture & 3-4 weeks for fungal tests. Until then there wasn't anything else they could do. He was sent home on 12/12/17. Told to watch his breathing & monitor activity. Follow up with primary vet. He wasn't doing any better. So back on Wednesday 12/13/17 to vet. There was much confusion on who said what & why tests weren't done like the EKO & PET ER told vet we declined fungal test & wasn't sent out! That place is a joke! After spending almost 2 hours at Vet's office, she sent us to Annapolis, MD ER because of fear he might not make it the night with his breathing the way it was. Off we went. Between the primary Vet & the 2 ER's talking we got some answers on tests. Recommended Niko see a specialist in AM. Now all along we've been saying "We don't have 10k to spent on vet bills. What is this going to cost?" We had to make a deposit of $850 to see specialist. Any tests would be deducted from that $850. Ok signed paperwork. 7:30 am received a call from ER. Thay drained his chest  & found "putrid " puss in a abbess by heart. His issue was now clear. Pyothorax. Commonly caused by a animal bite. The specialist was canceled & surgeon called. Was given a quote of 5-7K. Being young he had a good chance to pull through & still a semi-normal life. In surgery they found the infection had been there awhile. His right lung was smaller & "destroyed" by infection. Normally they only remove a part of the lung but they had to remove the entire lung. Chest tubes were placed for flushing & drainage. Everything was going good. We were allowed to see him Saturday for only 20 min.s. Sunday morning check in at 8:30am. Everything was going well. He was eating, temp, blood pressure was good. Possibility the surgeon will remove chest tubes on Monday.  An hour away from him on Sunday night we got the multi calls. He was declining & had several cardiac arrests episodes. Time was running out. 1/2 way there he was having another episode. I had to tell them to let him go. We got pulled over for speeding. I ran into ER & saw our baby. We spent a few minutes saying hi & loving him. Hoping it would calm him down to recover. He had another one. Staff running everywhere. Putting him back in OC2 tank & trying to incubate him. Had to tell staff no. I picked him up & held him. Before they could grab the syringe to euthanize, he was gone. As many know I rescue cats & I'm stupid enough to take care of other animals like the deformed raccoon. Niko was also a rescue but he became mine very quickly. a total mama's boy along with his big brother Brody. Where mama went so did they or at least always Niko. He stayed by my side. I don't know if we can afford to maintain taking care of the strays or feral cats. Pulling our resources together for up $5-7,000 has turned into $10,000+ between the 3 clinics & we still lost him. Between the gofundme & Venmo we are hoping to get a little help. Some of you were being forceful about us creating this. We are both heartbroken at this unexpected loss.
