Chloe's Surgery Fund

We took little Chloe in earlier this year, in January, after she turned up on our back porch and decided that we were her new parents. She quickly became friends with our other cat, Luna and our two dogs. She is highly energetic, playful and loves attention. This week we took her to the vet for a very swollen belly and bleeding where we were told that she has a condition called Pyometra.

In its simplest terms, pyometra is an infection in the uterus. Pyometra is considered a serious and life threatening condition that must be treated quickly and aggressively. Pyometra is a secondary infection that occurs because of hormonal changes in the female's reproductive tract. Following estrus or ‘heat’, progesterone levels remain elevated for several weeks, stimulating the uterine lining to thicken in preparation for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur for several estrus cycles, the lining continues to increase in thickness until cysts form in the uterus. This condition is called cystic endometrial hyperplasia. The thickened, cystic lining secretes fluids that create an ideal environment in which bacteria can grow. Additionally, high progesterone levels inhibit the ability of the muscles in the wall of the uterus to contract and expel accumulated fluids or bacteria.

Our vet gave us an estimate of $1,000-$2,000 to have the surgery done to remove Chloe's uterus. Unfortunately we are not able to afford this. We currently have her on antibiotics to ease some of her discomfort, but she really needs the surgery as soon as possible because it is a life threatening condition. We love our Chloe and hope that with this campaign we will be able to give this to her so she can get healthy and continue to be in our lives and hearts!
