Cancer treatment

Hi, my name is Autumn. Leroy is my father and is unfortunately battling cancer that insurance will no longer cover chemotherapy/radiation treatments or any future scans.

In October 2021 Leroy was diagnosed with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM) an uncommon blood cell cancer that originates from malignant B-cells. It is a slow-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Waldenström's mostly forms in the bone marrow and can slow normal blood cell growth, which can lead to anemia and a weakened immune system. He received treatment and was technically in remission for about a year. He went back for his 1 year scans and everything looked great. It wasn’t until he started to experience shortness of breath and increased fatigue and other symptoms that prompted him to go back to the doctors in July 2023 and unfortunately the cancer was back. The cancer then had metastasized (spread) to his lungs. He again, received intense chemotherapy and radiation for 6 months that unfortunately cause a lot of side effects. After his 6 month treatment regiment for the lung cancer his scans showed the cancer stopped growing. He then again went for his routine scans this past February 2024 and we received news nobody wants to hear. The cancer is back, and with vengeance. The cancer has now metastasized into his ribs which has caused them to weaken and break, his pelvic bones, 6 spots in his liver and also in his adrenal glands (gland connected to the kidney) he was all set to start a new chemotherapy/radiation treatment this Monday (3/18/24) and have a brain scan to hopefully confirm the cancer has not spread to the brain. We have now found out insurance is denying to help cover any of the medical expenses of treatment and scans. His doctor said without treatment, in 1 month his body will be consumed with this fast growing cancer. Myself and his family are working as hard and fast as possible to find any help with getting treatment and scans covered. We plan to host a benefit and are reaching out to his care team for help along with the help from donations. We are at a loss and are devastated that we possibly won’t be able to receive help with coverage. Any help is so greatly appreciated, donating, sharing, word of mouth!
