Hope for Joy

Roughly twenty-five years ago Joy Calabrese graced the hearts and souls of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center as a CNA; her heart of gold, the soul of silver, and a contagious smile that turned even the toughest of patients into butter. There wasn't a single soul that could argue her selflessness, and dedication to her job, family, and to her co-workers. She made everyone feel like family.  I was blessed to meet Momma Joy four years ago when I first started working at Brookhaven. She was the first person that makes me feel welcome. I'm not sure when she earned the name Momma Joy, but as long as I've been here, that's what her name has been. 
 Momma Joy was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer. Being faced with this news, Momma Joy has still persevered!  But as the story goes, her position here at Brookhaven hospital has been lost after her 25 years of dedication.
