We adopted our handsome, bright-eyed 13-year-old son, Cory, from the Ukraine when he was a young child of 6. He is the son we’ve always prayed for, especially after our first son died of a rare genetic disorder shortly after birth in 2001. Along with our three biological daughters, Cory completes our family and brings incredible joy to our lives. In his early childhood before we adopted him, he had been neglected, abused, and traumatized, passed from relative to relative while being raised by a single mom who was often gone. He never knew his birth father.
Over the past several years, Cory has been under the care of both a psychologist and psychiatrist for PTSD, ADHD, and Reactive-Defiant Disorder from trauma he suffered in his early years. And now his doctors are telling us that their outpatient treatment is not sufficient and he needs specialized, daily treatment provided by a 12- to 18-month residential program. Needless to say, this news was devastating to our family. But after considering all options, we have finally come to the realization that Cory indeed needs more emotional and professional support than our family alone can provide at this critical development stage in his life.
Unfortunately, we don't have the financial resources to pay for his treatment and our insurance does not cover inpatient care for Cory. We are humbly asking for financial help to meet this immediate need to get him the care he needs and deserves. We completely understand if you can’t afford to contribute, but would covet your prayers for Cory’s recovery. We do believe God sent us half way around the world--to Donetsk, which is now the middle of a war zone--to find our son and bring him back to the U.S. In order for us to “position Cory for his greatest chance for success,” we believe that inpatient care is essential at this critical time in his life.
