Friends of Tom Lombardo

Tax deductible
In November of this year,  Tom Lombardo passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, leadership and passion for life.

As a Cubs Scout Leader for his son Jamie's Den, Tom was passionate about spending time with him in the outdoors and exposing him to the same experiences he had while in Scouting.  And, as an Eagle Scout,  he truly represented everything that the Scout Law says:  "A Scout is... Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent."  Tom was all of those things and more.

In partnership with Tom's wife, Layla and son, Jamie, Riverside Pack 24 is creating the Tom Lombardo Memorial Fund.  Donations will be used by the Pathway to Adventure Council to fund Scouting adventures—such as sending Scouts to camp, purchasing uniforms and supplies and providing programming opportunities—for youth from local underserved areas who might not otherwise be able to afford to participate in  Scouts.  Tom always had fun Scouting stories and we believe he would be excited about enriching another child’s Scouting experience.

Please consider donating to honor Tom's Scouting legacy.

From Layla:

For Tom’s Eagle Scout project, he collected all the phone numbers for Emergency Services in the area.  He created a flyer and delivered them door to door in his neighborhood.  He found out later that one of the homes that put his flyer up had to use the information.  A child had gotten into some cleaning supplies and his mother was quickly able to look up the phone number for help.  The child made a full recovery.  He was always very proud of how his actions, while they seemed small, had made such a big impact on someone’s life.

Tom loved Boy Scouts and he learned a lot.  He never shied away from a tough problem.  He often told me that he learned so much from his Boy Scout Leader he felt it was his duty to ‘pay it forward’ when he had a son.  When Jamie was old enough to join Cub Scouts, Tom jumped right in to be the Den leader.  He was stern, but also fun.  He enjoyed looking at things in different ways and encouraged the boys to see things from many different perspectives.

Tom loved the outdoors and camping.  Our first purchase as a couple was a tent!  Tom was an avid kayaker.  A month after meeting, Tom went to Fiji to Kayak around some smaller islands by himself.  For this trip, he did tons of research and lots of preparation.  He bought a collapsible kayak and even designed and built a cart to move the kayak over rough island terrain.  He met and stayed with many tribes and islanders along his journey.  He put all of his eagle scout training to use on this trip.

Tom always had a smile and a funny story to tell.  No matter we were, people gravitated towards him and his kindness.  Always a helpful hand, willing to go out of his way to make sure everyone was doing ok.  He is missed everyday.
