This is a difficult time for Tambrala and me. We have never asked for help before in keeping our bed and breakfast dream alive. Yet we now find ourselves humbly asking for your help at this time. Any contribution will be deeply appreciated.
So here’s the scoop: A little over a year ago the house next to our B & B was sold. The new neighbors were invited to gatherings and were told about events. Follow up calls about noise levels and so on were met with positive comments from them.
Our bed and breakfast had been open for over 2 years BEFORE the new people moved in, over 3 years BEFORE they filed complaints and we've had ZERO complaints prior to their complaints this year.
The new neighbors have gone to the county as well as door to door to surrounding neighbors with letters announcing that they want the B & B shut down. Furthermore, they want our family to never have a hospitality business here again. Quite surprising and a wee bit over the top.
The county has come out as well as local law enforcement to view the supposed violations. Come to find out, in the whole permitting and business licensing process there are some minor issues that we are diligently working with county on to correct. They are mostly permit issues - some stemming from our contractor not obtaining proper permits and some from a recently enacted county ordinance that we weren't aware existed. All in all it is a very short list. The county has stated that we need to stop renting out the beautiful Tiki Treehouse in the interim. So, this is cutting into our livelihood and cash flow, as you can imagine.
Your contribution will be used for attorney fees and Yavapai County fees which are already nearing $1500 and will continue to climb as the process plays out over the next few months. The same neighbor's actions have dictated that we hire our own attorney, they have threatened to see that somehow this will end up in court.
While we feel confident that our excellent standing in both our neighboring community and in The Verde Valley business community will help us defeat this effort, we know that it's not over until it's over. We just don't know what they're going to do next.
