Friends of Miria Mendez

To our encouraging sponsors and friends of Miria Mendez, student artist, look how much this young lady has grown in the past 3 years! Miria is now in 7th grade and   loves being in middle school, loves that art curriculum is part of her day for at least half of the school year and loves that we have continued Art Club after school. Her younger sister, Sandy, also artistically talented, has chosen to give Miria the spotlight with drawing and painting.   Instead, she has chosen to learn jewelry making.  She loves playing with color combinations and picturing how her bracelets and necklaces would look on babies, children and adults.  She is DRIVEN with production!

Being completely deaf definitely brings challenges to both of their lives and the struggle of how they navigate life in different surroundings at school, home and in the world is real.  But I have never seen two happier tweens in my life!

This year we will enter the street chalk competition at Top of the Lake Art Festival Feb 3-4, as well as, the Art competition but will not have a booth at this festival.  Instead we will have the booth at Speckled Perch Festival March 9-10. Your gifts of support will cover booth fees and setup.

We would also like to purchased desks and storage for both Miria and Sandy for their home.  For Miria, this will be a functional place to work on her art where she can keep her supplies and artwork in a safe place without them being damaged.  For Sandy, this will be more of a student desk, but one where she can continue her jewelry-making skills at home and have some storage options.  And of course, we want to continue to support them with supplies for their specific artistry.

Our community has been so supportive of these two sweethearts and we are so thankful for that and for the investment in their lives.  It makes every difference in the world to them as without this help, they would not have the tools to give them that jumpstart they deserve.  If you are not as familiar with Miria and Sandy’s story, reach out to me for more information.  Their teachers, interpreters, schools and I are so grateful to you, their sponsors!  If you feel led, please share this fundraiser on your page to help us meet our goals for these two.  ❤️
