Dear Family and Friends of Joe Carpenter and the Carpenter family,
In August of 2018, the Carpenter family was dealt an unexpected medical situation that would embark them on a difficult and strenuous, yet hopeful journey.
On August 14th, Joe was confronted with an aortic aneurysm which sent him immediately to Jeanes hospital for emergency surgery. Joe underwent a tedious and risky surgery to repair a ruptured aorta causing significant internal bleeding. After beating the odds of making it through the initial surgery, Joe was placed on a ventilator and his family was told that subsequent surgeries would be necessary with the risk of infection being very high.
On August 16th, Joe underwent a 2nd surgery in which a no longer functioning piece of his large intestine was removed. It was necessary for Joe's surgical site to continue to be remained open in order for swelling to decrease and for fluids to drain. This caused an increase risk for further infection and complications. A few days later, Joe underwent a third surgery to clean out and close the surgical site.
After 3 weeks in intensive care (critical care), Joe was able to breathe independently no longer requiring a ventilator. He was transferred to a regular hospital room where he stayed for a week and continued to  get stronger each day, continuing to beat the odds. On September 19th, Joe was transferred to the PowerBack Rehabilitation Center (Upper Moreland) for the next leg of his journey. Currently, Joe is receiving Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy Services, 6 days a week, 2X per day.
Every day Joe wills himself to fight through the significant pain and fatigue to gain back his strength and mobility.
Once released to home, from Rehab, Joe will be required to continue with intense therapy on an outpatient basis requiring an increased need for equipment, transportation and time from his immediate family.
As friends of Joe and the Carpenter family, we have set up this Go Fund Me page, for Joe and his family, in order to provide a venue for both emotional and financial contributions. Having beat the odds in surviving this massive aortic stroke (1 of 5 people surviving the stroke and surgery), the Carpenter family needs our support to keep up their determination, will and strength to keep fighting and forging ahead as the challenges and obstacles continue to mount around them.
No contribution is too small and every thought of support counts. The contributions can be chosen to remain anonymous with all proceeds going directly to the Carpenter Family. Please join us in supporting the Carpenter Family to get back on their feet through prayer, positive thoughts, emotional and financial support.
