The Frenchie Photo Project

Donation protected

In March of 2016, it will be two years since my sister Francesca passed away suddenly.  For all of us, losing Frenchie was total heartbreak and utter shock.  Time passes, the clouds are starting to part for me and I can see clearly what I want to do for her.

As many of you know, I have her photographs. She was an incredible and talented photographer. She was a true artist. Her work dealt with the challenge of love and connection, of self and identity, of bodies and masks and the performance of love. It speaks to me personally and my own work in so many ways.

With this GoFundMe campaign, I am declaring my intention to start archiving and digitizing her photos. I only have hard copies and some slides (digital files were lost on a laptop she had that was stolen from her). It costs a chunk of change to have high quality scans made of her hard copies, they also may need retouching to get them back to their original state.

I will be working with her friend and CCA colleague Sebastian Caseres in San Francisco to scan her slides. He was very close to her project and her work and he is the perfect person to do this.

This project will lead to a book of her work and writing. Perhaps a collaborative project. I want to build something BIG. As big and kickass as she was. This is just the beginning. The start is the archiving and the digital images.

Donations of $50 or more will be invited to a memorial exhibit (likely multiple locations San Francisco and San Diego). Donations of $500 and more will recieve a high quality large print of a photo of their choice -- updates about those will be posted here.

Also, if there are other ways you'd like to support -- with resources or ideas, please contact me!

More details to come.  However, it is time for me to start this project. It is time for me to finally collaborate with my sister. When she was alive we talked about this. We always wanted to. With love and energy and inspiration in my heart I ask for contributions from her family and friends and admirers (of which she had many -- the badass that she was).

To Francesca and her beautiful life and her beautiful work.
