Where there's a Will, there's a way.

Hello, my name is Kyle William Hicks but please, call me Will. I consider myself a fun loving, charismatic, happy kind of guy, however, as with everything, there are at least 2 sides to every story. You see, I was born intersex. In the most convenient terms this means that I was born into a body that falls into a gray area, somewhere between male & female. Unfortunately for those of us who are born into this, it is determined for us at birth whether there shall be an “M” or an “F” placed in the gender section of our birth certificates. In my case, I fell on the side of that scale that the doctors determined “It’s a girl!” & not another thought was ever given by my parents or doctors, to my knowledge.
For many years I struggled to understand why I was given dolls for Christmas when I had asked Santa for G.I. Joes or why I was scolded for running around as a small child with my swimsuit only covering the bottom half of my body like “the rest of the boys”. Once I hit puberty, I was teased constantly because I was a girl who grew sideburns, then later in high school a full beard. I would shave every day, twice a day to hide my 5 O’clock shadow. I had always felt that something just wasn’t right, or didn’t make sense within myself. It wasn’t until I was 22 when I met a man who changed my life just what that was. At that time, I didn’t understand what the word transgender meant, let alone intersex. As he began to explain his story, I felt that my whole life now made sense. Now I knew who I was & what direction to head in. I almost immediately began living my life as Will with the encouragement and support of my close friends.
My goal in creating this page is to help acquire the necessary funds to finally complete what is referred to commonly as “top surgery”. This is a double mastectomy procedure. The surgeon performing this operation will be Dr. Cori Agarwal in Salt Lake City.
This, for me, is the final step in my aligning myself correctly. There are many things in this life I could live without. I am not a selfish or materialistic man. However, I cannot take this weight on my chest any longer (pun intended). I've been dressing in layers and binding for nearly a decade. It's hot. It's painful. It's depressing. So I beg of you, reach into your hearts and your pocketbooks, and donate what you can. Help spread the word and encourage others to educate themselves and maybe make a donation of their own. Funds for this surgery will go to cover the complete cost of the surgery, medications, and after surgery garments.
I have also been working on saving money for this surgery but life happens & I have struggled to get by. Both my fiancée & I work two jobs. Neither of us make much money and we had a large financial setback in 2013 when my fiancée had to have a sudden surgery. I do have a savings account set up strictly for my surgical savings and have roughly $500 saved thus far.
If you need more of an explanation of what intersex, or transgender means, please follow these links with an open heart:

Donations of all amounts are accepted and greatly appreciated. I do have some items I can craft as thank you gifts for certain monetary levels. Even if you cannot donate, please spread the word!
