Free self defence for women

My name is Carlos and I am Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and have been training for over 10 years and coaching for the last 5 years. I have wanted to do women’s self-defence sessions for some time, and due to recent events felt that now would be a great time to start. Being a father to three children- two daughters and a son and a having a young granddaughter, it’s really important that I can share my skills and knowledge with my family and others.
Violence against women is a global issue and one that won’t be solved overnight, however more and more women are seizing opportunities to stand up, speak out, and fight back in defence of themselves and their communities. Providing women with the tools and confidence to defend themselves as well as the knowledge of how to diffuse aggressive situations and avoid confrontation is something that all women should be entitled to.
I initially wanted to offer classes to 50 women, once a week for 1 month, however after sharing this on social media, the response was enormous and within just a few days I had almost 100 women contact me asking to take part. The realisation of how big the demand is for this kind of class, has been astounding and I have now spread the class over 2 months to accommodate the women already enrolled.
I hope that with support I can roll this project out for a longer duration and give more women the opportunity to participate. To make sure that I am able to deliver sessions safely and effectively I will need additional coaches to support delivery. This will mean funding experienced self-defence coaches, paying for their time and travel and any other expenses. I will also need to hire a venue big enough to safely accommodate large numbers of participants as well as having enough safety mats to provide protection to participants. Any donations that people are able to make will make a massive contribution to how we are able offer and deliver these sessions and hopefully extend the project.
