Franklin Military Academy is a title-1 public school in Richmond, Virginia. Like the other middle schools in Richmond Public Schools, we often struggle to maintain sufficient funding sources for extra-curricular activities, and teachers/ coaches frequently have to finance sporadic costs out-of-pocket.
In the past four years the Franklin Military Middle School Track team has grown as a program. We have come in 1st or 2nd place in the city's championship and have recently begun to compete in meets outside of the city.
As the program has grown, so have the expenses. Meets cost money to enter. Transportation is expensive. The students do not have a uniform to wear for competitions- the last one was created using iron-on printables and fell apart within weeks of the first competition.
We would love our team to be able to have at least a uniform top to wear in competition, rather than mismatched black shirts. Additionally, we would love to be able to afford to enter into meets that we qualify for. This would require an established funding source in the bank to help offset the costs of growing the track team (the bulk of which have been personally financed by the head coach with his teacher's salary).
Our throwing team has claimed 1st place in every competition in the last two years. This is largely because they have had a quality shot put to practice with as well as assistance from volunteers. We'd like to be able to purchase start blocks and a discus so that we could see similar growth in other parts of our program.
Once we have an established fund base in the team account we can also finance fundraisers such as selling t-shirts- something that is difficult for us to do without initial funds to off-set the purchase cost.
Please help us out by chipping in a few dollars to help us build a funding base to allow our team to compete and grow!
