Foxy’s spinal surgery and recovery
Hi friends and family!
So as you may know David and I (Sophie)
adopted the cutest baby girl 6 years ago. FOXY! She has brightened every day for us and shown
us the true meaning of unconditional love.
Whether you know her in real life or through
social media, you know she loves cuddles,
sunbathing, and of course her ultimate favorite
FETCH!
On Thanksgiving this year we noticed foxy’s demeanor had changed a bit. She couldn't jump up in excitement when we came home and wouldn't
stand on her back legs to do her favorite trick.
During the next 2 days, after a vet visit and 2
emergency room visits, Foxy's condition had
escalated very quickly. She gained complete
Paralysis in her hind legs including her tail and
loss of bladder control.
After X-rays and blood work showed nothing
wrong, they proceed to do an MRI scan. The MRI showed Foxy had intervertebral disc disease
(IVDD) and sustained a disc herniation which
compressed the spinal cord to the point of
causing neurologic deficits. (Paralysis)
Our only option was an emergency surgery.
(Hemilaminectomy)
3 Hours a 10 inch incision and 11 staples later
our babygirl made it through.
Thankfully after 3 days in ICU at the hospital we got to bring her home! Unfortunately Foxy still
has no feeling in her bottom half and can't pee
on her own yet. We still have a long road ahead
of us. Doctors say she has a 50/50 chance of full recovery but we know our babygirl will pull
through.
Now she is on strict bed rest for 4-6 weeks until starting the rehab process. (So lots of sleep and
cuddles with mom n dad)
This has truly been the most heart wrenching
thing either of us has had to endure. Seeing our
baby in pain along with the financial burden has
added a lot of stress for us.
Foxy's medical expenses will include :
+Vet Visits +2 Emergency Room Visits
+Blood Work +X-Rays
+MRI scan. +Hemilaminectomy Surgery
+3 days ICU +Medications
: Totaling between 12k-14k
We are hoping Foxy's GoFundMe account will
help supplement some of these costs.
Feel Free to donate as much or as little as you
can. Any amount helps ! We have already had so many people reach out with such kind words and that has helped all 3 of us in this time of need.
Thank you for your support! We will keep you all updated with Foxy's progress.
WITH LOVE
Sophie, David, and Foxy
